Seamus' Monday

Today on our travels we visited one of the many government-funded art schools in Cuba. We saw many children perform who had so much experience with arts such as music and painting. The school had students from the ages of 8 to 18 who gained a new level of artistic learning with every year. Some of the songs that the choirs performed for us were "Guantanamera," a famous Cuban song, "Wade in the Water." We heard many songs preformed with instruments such as "My Way" by Frank Sinatra with a saxophone, and "Over the Rainbow" with a trombone. It was amazing to see how great the arts programs were in this country and just how many talented people roamed the streets. I loved learning about and seeing the Cuban education system and how it works. Our experience was eye-opening to see how different our cultures are yet the underlying similarities were clear and wonderful.
