Today was our second day in Havana and our first day actually doing stuff! First we rode to Mantanzas (it means Massacre in Spanish because when the Spaniards came the Indians helped them across the bay and then killed them all) and sang in the Hermita de la Vigen de Montserrat. Since it was on a hill the view was amazing and we got a lot of good pictures there. After we sang, we listened to the choir of Matanzas. The choir was made up of really talented adults of all ages. When they sang they tested and experimented with different factors of the songs in order to get the best sound. For example, in one song the soloist sang from a different level than the choir so she would sound softer and further away. Then we went to the central plaza of Matanzas for a nice lunch of roasted pork with live music. Right after we finished lunch we had our first free time. We spent it talking, taking pictures of the square we were in, and talking to the Cubans. Some of them asked questions that seemed a little too personal, but all of them seemed friendly. We then did a choral workshop with a lady named Digna and she was absolutely adorable. Digna is the director of the national choir and she's kind of a celebrity in Cuba. She reminds me of my grandma! Loving Cuba so far and the weather is beautiful!
